Issue No. 4045
General Nicolas Deloso Torre III, Chief of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), has become the subject of national debate following his admission before a Senate panel that force was necessary during the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. In a heated exchange with Senator Imee Marcos and Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, de la Torre defended his actions, stating that despite multiple efforts to convince Duterte's camp, the former president and his legal counsel refused to comply with the arrest order. This has led many to question not only the manner of the arrest but also the ethics of employing force against a former leader, who, at the time of his arrest, was elderly, ill, and in a fragile state.
