They not only convinced the Jaycees of the whole world to hold their 1950 convention in Manila, they convinced their audiences in 48 American cities that the Philippine Republic has a stable government and is inhabited by intelligent English-speaking Christians. In the United States they found ears eager to hear about Corregidor and Bataan, about manganese and mangos, and the products which the Philippines can produce. Theil also found that over 99% of the Jaycees in the U.S. had never heard of the advantages granted to American citizens by the Bell Act. We have had our “cake” for generations, but have been unable to eat it for the lack of the capital to prepare it for consumption. The Jaycees invited that capital to help us bake our “cake,” but their invitation will fall on deaf ears if we lead capitalists to believe that we shall try to eat it all alone ER -
