TY - SER TI - Report of meetings : : April 7, 1949 N1 - The Rotary Balita no. 619 (April 20, 1948) N2 - After listening to today's scholarly lecture on "Focal Infection and Its Systematic Effects" given by the eminent dentist, Dr. Gervacio Eraña, Rotarians have become "tooth-and-mouth-conscious". Giving a detailed dissertation on the various forms of focal infections and their varied effects on the human body, Dr. Eraña, himself a rotarian, traced many forms of maladies to tooth decay and its concomitant mouth infections. For the general well-being of the entire body, it is important, the speaker stressed, to take not only curative but also preventive measures to avoid or at least minimize the incidence of focal infection which are the root cause of many diseases. After Dr. Eraña's enlightening lecture, one Rotarian was heard to remark: "Now most spectacular of all professionals. When he is at work, he keeps all his patients open-mouthed!". Special guests of the occasion were two "pensionados" of the Second Philippine Aviation Training Program, Messrs. Melecio D. Rueda, Jr. and Mario J. Cruz, who have just returned from the United States after completing special training in aeronautics at Oklahoma City. Rotarian hospitality is not new to these newly-arrived pensionados. At Oklahoma city, the local Rotary Club there, composed of about 300 very active members, admitted the two young pensionados as special Rotary members, after impressing them with practical illustrations of Rotarian aims and ideals.
