TY - SER AU - Del Rosario, Ernie TI - Editorial: music for Manila N1 - The Rotary Balita no. 701 (July 31, 1953) N2 - Music For Manila. Perhaps the greatest step so far towards the revival of art since the end of the war is the series of popular concerts given by the Manila Symphony Orchestra, the firs of which was held successfully at the For by Eastern University Auditorium the other Sunday. Dr. Herbert Zipper, conductor of the MSO, is the militant spirit behind the more ment. This eminent musician has not only afforded art starved Manilans priceless opportunities to hear the best in music but he has also endeavored with a measure of success to place this art form within access of the average purse. With its regular concerts and local Pop Concert, the MSO has rendered signal service to the community in the field of artistic and cultural development. Its latest enterprise is the Beethoven Festival whose magnitude, considering the very limited facilities of the university auditorium used ersatz as a real theatre, was a challenge. Between the orchestra and the choral ensemble, the FEU stage was awfully inadequate. But the success was there, and a popular presentation of the performance is planned. The MSO needs the support of all cosmopolitan Manila and the Rotary could do its bit, not only for the continued development of this art form but also for the eventual erection of a temple worthy of art. How about it? ER -
