The Rotary Balita no. 661 (December 21, 1950).
The Fellowship Committee took over today and dished out the most entertaining, the most hilarious luncheon program in a long long time. Birds who flocked together were dispersed and for the first time in some cases one Rotarian found himself seated with another he hadn't a téte a téte since heaven knows when. Everybody had fun when it was discovered that so many Rotarians couldn't call another by name. they won't But find the occasion repeated over, we hope. The Fellowship Committee has made ties among members of the club closer and tighter than ever. Rotarians found themselves buried under an avalanche of notices and announcements. First, the slogan contest winners were announced : 1st prize - "GE" Eraña, and Help "Live Live" (Vive et Vivere Adjuva); 2nd prize - "Ted" Hall, Service Through Fellowship" (Servicio por Medio maraderia; de la Ca Interfrates Subsidium); 3rd prize - "EA" Perkins, "Here and Everywhere" (Hic et Ubique). The three foregoing slogans will be forwarded to Rotary International in Chicago as the entries of Manila Rotary in the International Slogan Contest. The list of Christmas gift-givers to mail carriers and telegraph messengers, including from individual Rotarians and their firms, in cash or in kind, was also passed around. So was a letter from Major General Mariano N. Castañeda, chief of staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines, thanking Manila Rotary for its donation to the Philippine Battalion Combat Expeditionary Team to Korea consisting of foodstuffs which were airborne to Korea. And another letter from the U.S. embassy in Manila coursing the gratitude of President Truman for Manila Rotary's cablegram to him congratulating him for escaping an attempt to assassinate him. The occasion having also coincided with Boys Week, Manila Boy Mayor Juan Antillon was a special guest.
