TY - SER TI - Letters to Manila Rotary and the editors - The Rotary Balita no. 756 (October 21, 1954) N1 - The Rotary Balita no. 756 (October 21, 1954) N2 - GIRL SCOUTS OF THE PHILIPPINES September 28, 1954 Dear Mr. Puyat: President, Rotary Club of Manila Manila Dear Mr. Puyat: Our many thanks to you and members of the Rotary Club of Manila for your warm-hearted cooperation with us during our recently concluded Girl Scout Week. Your support of Girl Scouting gives us the courage and inspiration to carry on our endless work for the young girls of today. We appreciate all your kind efforts and encouragement and we hope that the results of our work every year will prove us worthy of your needed support. With our warmest regards to the Rotarians of Manila, Yours most sincerely. (Sgd.) MRS. TRINIDAD F. LEGARDA Chairman, Public Relations --- October 9, 1954 Mr. Ralph G. Hawkins Luzon Stevedoring Co. Derham Bldg., Port Area Manila Dear Ralph, It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the president has authorized me to appoint you Captain of the Rotary Basketball Team for 1954. This is in connection with the MICAA tournament which will be staged at the La Salle Stadium on October 29, 1954. First game will be against the Knights of Columbus. Any member of the Rotary can play, provided that he is over 40 years of age and weighs 170 lbs. This is the only qualification in order to even up with the Jaycee and the Lions who have young and virile members. Each team can have 15 players. Every quarter will have 10 minutes of game with each team entitled to call 5 time-outs every quarter of one minute each. The captains of the different Rotary Clubs will act as referees during the game. I have appointed myself, if you do not object, as coach of our team. I am also appointing Yao Shiong Shio as manager. You will agree with me that this choice of manager is a very good one, considering that Mr. Yao has always cooperated wholeheartedly with all civic projects. Please order your uniforms (undershirts only) and give us the bill. We shall collect this during one of our meetings through fines. May I suggest that you select 6-footers. What we have of age can be counteracted by height. Please let me know how soon we can have the first practice of the "Rotary Stars." We should at least have two practice games before October 29. Ralph, we are pinning our hopes of victory on you. Let us go. Rotarily, (Sgd.) LEOPOLDO ROVIRA, JR. cc: Pres. Gene Puyat Mr. Yao Shiong Shio Mr. Rafael S. Dedal LR/daf --- PHILIPPINE JUDO CLUB P.O. Dear Sir: We are cordially inviting you, the members of your association, and their friends, to the formal opening of our recently organized PHILIPPINE JUDO CLUB, on October 1st at its office and gymnasium at Room 300-A, Republic Super Market Bldg., Manila. In response to popular demand, we aim to propagate instructions in "judo" throughout. There is a necessity of learning it as it is considered "the highest form of self-defense and physical development of an individual to prepare him for the growing complexities of modern world." Our club has application membership with internationally known judo clubs in Japan and Rome, and is highly commended by Mr. Jorge B. Vargas, PAAF President, who is one of our honorary members. As we aim to propagate this, we wish for your club's moral support, by recommending to us some interested members of the association and their friends. We shall be very glad to receive them. anytime at our office. Very truly yours, (Sgd.) LUCIO ROSKA ONG President The Philippine Judo Club ER -
