TY - SER TI - News of Rotary Golden Anniversary - The Rotary Balita no. 757 (November 4, 1954) N1 - The Rotary Balita no. 757 (November 4, 1954) N2 - MANY USES SUGGESTED FOR "GOLDEN BOOK" Every Rotarian should have an opportunity to reserve a copy of "Rotary: Fifty Years of Service." This is the advise given by President Herbert Taylor in a recent letter sent to presidents of Rotary clubs. To ensure that not only individual Rotarians have an opportunity to reserve personal copies of this marvelous book, and so it will be available for distribution to many non-Rotarians, advance subscription sale notices are shortly to be sent to clubs. A gratis copy will be sent to each club in addition to those ordered by Rotary club members. There are unlimited uses for this great volume by individual Rotarians and clubs. For example, clubs can use especially selected portions for dramatized programs during the celebration period. Inscribed copies can be presented to each new member admitted during the celebration and to guest speakers. Public and school libraries will want copies; so will such public opinion molders as newspaper editors, radio and television station directors, clergymen and many others. It is the kind of anniversary souvenir book which every Rotarian will be proud to call his own! *** SEVEN COUNTRIES PLAN TO ISSUE ROTARY STAMPS Seven countries have now announced that they will be issuing special stamps commemorating Rotary's Golden Anniversary. They are: Belgium, Nicaragua, Cuba, Dominican Republic; Panama, Philippines and Korea. Belgium has already issued three commemorative stamps. Two relate to the recent Regional Conference held at Ostend, Belgium for clubs in Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. One is related to Rotary's Golden Anniversary. Indications are that other countries plan similar action. *** “THE ROTARIAN” TO COMMEMORATE FIFTY YEARS OF ROTARY The special Golden Anniversary issue, February, 1955, of "The Rotarian" will be different from the publication which you receive each month of the year. In addition to nearly 100 pages of features, pictorials, maps of historical significance, it will initiate a series of six issues commemorating Rotary's 50 years. Chesley R. Perry, Rotary's first Secretary and elder statesman, will start a running story of "Rotary Down the Decades" with "Origins." Then month by month will come articles by Past Presidents of Rotary International: Crawford C. McCullough, who will cover the years 1916-25; Almon E. Roth, 1926-35; Walter D. Head, 1936-45; and T. A. Warren, 1946-55. *** PAUL HARRIS - 1955 MODEL Frank Cady, the actor who plays the role of Paul Harris in the Rotary movie, "The Great Adventure," has somewhat of a Rotary background himself. His father and his grandfather were Presidents of the Rotary Club of Susanville, California, U.S.A. A brother and a cousin were also Rotarians and an uncle served as District Governor. In 1930, Frank Cady attended Rotary's Silver Anniversary Convention in Chicago with his father. Today, through his part in the film, he is helping Rotary to celebrate its Golden Anniversary. ER -
