The Rotary Balita no. 745 (May 13, 1954)
When Monching del Rosario who has been appointed chairman of the Community Service Committee for 1954-55 addressed the Club Assembly last Monday, he spoke beautiful words. Monching said that he had that morning one of the best experiences in his life as a Rotarian. He called twelve Rotarians that morning asking them to be chairmen for twelve committees under Community Service. Notice was short and unexpected but the twelve men requested answered in the affirmative and accepted the positions offered by Monching without hesitation or doubt. In these words of Menching are condensed the hest virtues of the Manila Rotary Club. For the interest of the Club no Rotarian will refuse a job no matter how busy he may be and no matter which job would be. This magnificent spirit of full cooperation and Rotary fellowship was quite observed at the first Club Assembly held last Monday at the Manila Hotel where chairmen of all the committees met to expose their plans for the incoming Rotary year. Our club can be considered an old club. It was established in 1919 and since then many Board of Directors, many committee chairmen have done their respective duties. Nevertheless in this first club assembly presided by Gene Puyat the atmosphere of a young, virile organization was apparent. The meeting lasted five hours and could have gone on indefinitely with new ideas coming up, new projects being presented, new plans being developed. It was a very enthusiastic affair which promised a brilliant Rotary year ahead. The appointed committee chairmen were given the opportunity to select by themselves the members of their committees. Practically everybody was ready with his names and the committees begun for all purposes to function ahead of their terms. Monching del Rosario is the chairman for Community Service; Ramon Ordoveza, Vocational Service; Jack Preysler, Club Service; and Conrado Benitez, International Service. We will publish in due time the list of the new committees once they have been definitely approved by the Board of Directors. Gene Puyat in his first formal act as President for the incoming year expressed how lucky the incoming officers were to have been selected to serve during the Golden Anniversary year. He emphasized to the enthusiastic audience of Rotarians the importance of this coming year and the celebrations proposed for the anniversary. The enthusiasms displayed by the Manila Rotarians at this first Club Assembly for the year 1954-1955 was well defined by one of the members who said these parting words: "They certainly love their Rotary." These words inspired our artist to draw the man embracing the Rotary wheel which is the theme for our cover.
