The Rotary Balita no. 743 (April 8, 1954)
The Rotary Club of Vorarlberg, Austria, is located in the area which suffered greatly when the worst avalanche in centuries struck recently. All firms in Vorarlberg which are owned by Rotarians immediately contributed goods for the relief of the avalanche victims and released their employees for help in the stricken areas. But, in addition to the assistance of Rotarians in the immediate vicinity, helping hands were extended by Rotarians elsewhere. Governor Hans von Cossel of district 74 (Germany) recognized the need and forwarded funds to the administrative adviser of the Rotary clubs of Austria, Dr. Walter Kless. Rotarian Kless in turn notified all Rotary Clubs in Austria of this thoughtful gesture, told of the assistance which his own Rotary club (Graz) was providing and reminded the clubs that many opportunities for service were still available in aiding the avalanche victims. In this manner, Rotarians join together to serve those in need when disaster strikes. Additional "helping hands," offering donations of cash or goods, should contact Dr. Walter Kless, Hauptplatz 14, Graz, Austria.
