520			_aA feather in the caps of Cornelio "Balmy" Balmaceda, chairman of the board of directors, and of Arsenio "Arsenic" Luz, director general, of the International Fair which opens next month in Manila, is the acceptance by Miss Armi Kuusela, Miss Universe of 1952, of an invitation to be a guest of the fair. She will proclaim and crown Miss Philippines. Our President Hans Menzi entertained for members of the press and radio at his Forbes Park (Makati) home and left for the U.S. the following day. Back from a three-week business trip to the United States is Paul Parrette, president and general manager of the Philippine Manufacturing Co. Paul was accompanied by Mrs. Parrette. Several Manila Rotarians figured in the year-end symposium on business outlooks for the new year. Among them are Pedro "Pete" Teodoro, chairman of the Philippine Promotion Bureau, and Sergio Bayan, president of the Philippine Chamber of Industries. Back from the United States where he underwent medical treatment, Eugenio "Gene" Puyat is a much-feted Rotarian these days. Earl Carroll, one of the best acquisitions of Manila Rotary in 1952, was named Businessman of the Year 1952 by the Business Writers Association of the Philippines. Earl is president of the Philippine American Life Insurance Co. Juan "Johnny" Orendain made a good job of emceeing the Neighbors' Day program January 4 of the Heroes Hills, a fast- growing community in Quezon City. Mrs. Orendain prepared the program. Like father, like son. Juan "Juanito" Nakpil's son, Francisco, captured one of the first five places in the recent architects' examination. Rotarians and Rotary Anns had their ample share of doing something for the less fortunate during the Christmas and New Year holidays. More power to them in this New Year so they can do more for the under- privileged. Ramon Ordoveza played Santa to over three hundred employees of Carmelo & Bauermann, Inc. during their last traditional Employees' Christmas Party. The occasion also marked the inauguration of the P300,000.00 company annex just completed located behind the present building. Two of their oldest employees with forty-five years of continuous and faithful service received solid gold-watch awards. The Philippine Columbian Association Clubhouse on Taft Avenue will be completed by the end of this month according to its President, Ramon Ordoveza. He reports that it will be the only Filipino club in the capital city and will include various club facilities such as bowling alleys, tennis courts, billiards, a bar and cocktail lounge with a native motif, a modern air-conditioned social hall to accommodate around three hundred guests.
