Most Active Committee. - The Community Service Committee under Ted Hall as Chairman has set the pace in active committee work. Ted meets his committee members regularly once a month at an afternoon tea, usually in the Manila Hotel. Its next meeting is set for September 7, at 5:30 p.m. These regular meetings enable the Committee not only to consider and follow up its various projects in community service but also to hear the progress reports of its different subcommittees. This Committee has a city sanitation project being implemented by its subcommittee under Ike Icasiano. For this project a meeting will be held shortly with the City Mayor and other keymen of the city government, other civic organizations like the JAYCEES, Lions Club, Philippine Chamber of Commerce, National Federation of Women's Clubs, and Catholic Women's Clubs. To extend further the scope of its work, the CSC has asked for the creation of a new subcommittee known as the Handicapped Personnel Committee. Bill Dunn has been appointed chairman of this new committee. Rotary Sign at Airport.- One of the first projects of Ted Hall's Community Service Committee to be realized is the construction of a Rotary sign at the International Airport in Nichols Field to guide visiting Rotarians from the provinces and from abroad. Inscribed on the sign are the words: Manila Rotary Club Meets on Thursday. Rotarian Ernie Mora has offered to donate the sign, the cost of which is P325 and its maintenance of about P15 a month after one year. Ernie will put up the sign and take care of its maintenance during the first year. We thank you, Ernie, for this fine spirit of club service. United Nations Week.- Perce Hodgson, President of Rotary International, has proclaimed the week of October 17 to 24 as United Nations Week, appealing to every Rotary club in the world to devote the week to leadership in getting worldwide support for the United Nations. The "Week" will end with the observance all over the world of United Nations Day, October 24, which was selected by the General Assembly. Our International Service Committee and United Nations subcommittee will lead in our observance.
