The Rotary Balita no. 689 (January 31, 1952)

Suddenly finding himself mayor of Pasay City, Primitivo "Tiving" Lovina is applying the big broom in cleaning out his city. He has promised cooperation with Manila's Mayor Arsenic Lacson, and in this he has the support of all Rotarians. Ex-President Gil Puyat's "speechifying" spree continues. On February 1, he will talk before the Villamor College as part of their 6th anniversary celebration. Speaking of celebrations, we all know that Francisco "Dalup" Dalupan's go-getting University of the East marked its fifth milestone last week. Congrats, Dalup, and keep it up! The very picture of industry these days is Felino "Lino" Neri, genial undersecretary of foreign affairs, in view of the conferences on reparations. Sixteen billion pesos are at stake in the talks and Lino is there pitching. Thru his three sons, Rotarians David and Washington Sycip, and a third, Alexander a scholarship in the U.P. college of agriculture was donated by Albino Sycip, pillar of the Chinese community in the country and president and general manager of the China Banking Corporation. We need more Albino SYCIPS in this country. The annual Community Chest fund drive can look forward to a most successful year, what with Donald O. "Dinny" Gunn piloting the collections. Brain tumor specialists held a meeting recently at the seminar room of Sharpe and Dohme, and one of the speakers was our Dr. Romeo H. Gustilo, Modesto "Fary" Farolan recently returned after conferring with tourist officials in Honolulu in the interest of the Philippine Tourist and Travel Association, of which he is President. Ramon C. Ordoveza, for the fourth consecutive term, was re-elected unanimously President of the Philippine Columbian Association for the year 1952. Ramon says that the complete rehabilitation of the PCA Clubhouse will start soon and it will stand as one of Manila's landmarks as before the war, when completed. The PCA is an organization for fellowship designed especially for the recreational and physical, intellectual and moral betterment of businessmen and professionals.
