An economic administrator to take complete charge of accelerating and coordinating private endeavors towards economic development to prevent misdirection of efforts was strongly proposed by Antonio de las Alas, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. This administrator who will protect the local industries from foreign competition. and at the same time consider financing problems of these industries is the "missing link in the country's economic development," he said. He suggested that this official shall be aided in the performance of his duties by a five-man advisory board with the head of the National Economic Council as chairman. Two other members should be the governor of the Central Bank and the administrator of economic coordi nation, he added.
