Summary, etc. | The special luncheon meeting of the Me nila Rotary last July 5 was a memorable occasion from many points of view. Princ pally, it was in celebration of Independent Day on July & of two nations closely linked by ties of friendship and common interests Guest speakers were U.S. Ambassador My von M. Cowen, who spoke on the meaning of July 4th to America, and Vice-President Fernando Lopez who reviewed the achiere ments of the Philippine Republic during the first six short years of its existence. Mr. Cowen's speech was inspiring and the future. Verily, our ideals are buttressed the Vice-President's, an optimistic picture of ed in the long tradition which goes back to the glorious principles of democracy as developed in the United States and transplanted to the Philippines where it is growing fast like a flower soon to burst into full bloom despite the many dangers that lurks on its path.
