| Summary, etc. | On the evening of June 27th, Rotarians of the State of Vermont, U.S.A., meeting at Burlington, conferred honorary membership in Rotary upon the Honorable Warren R. Austin, U.S.A. Representative at the seat of the United Nations. In accepting the honor, Ambassador Warren Austin uttered certain warnings Which deserve the thoughtful consideration of all men everywhere: “We have reached a point where we cannot allow formal educational institutions to continue to have inadequate personnel or facilities for educating youth in world affairs. It is, in my judgment, absolutely essential that each community raise the question as to whether it has the resources and programs to assure education in world affairs to all of its people. We must unceasingly give thought to raising the level of community understanding of world problems. Rotary can help immeasurably to do this job. "I am urging that all of you in your own clubs ask this question: Does our town have a situation in which every one has a decent chance to develop to the full his capacity to understand world affairs? Then I would urge that Rotarians take whatever action is necessary to create that kind of a situation... "This period is indeed a time of second chance. There will be no third chance." |
