520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. During the registration of aliens this year one employee of the government, who had worked all day, even through the lunch hour until 5 p.m., then made two calls to the aliens of sick to take their finger prints and fill out their blanks. After finishing, at nearly 8 p.m., he refused a tip for overtime or car fare, politely remarking, "Thanks, I am a Christian. I am very happy to help those sick people without any reward." Such an act of kindness and service above self is so rare that it deserves commendation. Last year we had a courtesy campaign headed by our own "GE." Since their, every time you use your telephone You can hear the good results of that campaign,' only did "Ted" teach his 'phone girls to be polite and pleasant to his customers but the servants of over a hundred Rotarians have acquired the habit of saying in gentle tones, “Good Morning, this is Mr. so-and-so's office. Who's calling please?”, or some other polite expression calculated to cool off your hot temper and make you glad you're alive. If “GE's” committee accomplished no more than that, or if it merely inspired a single government official to do a daily good deed without reward, we would have ample reason to repeat the campaign. Last year we gave acards for outstanding acts of courtesy. This year let us also take appropriate steps to discourage rudeness discourtesy and impoliteness. Our chauffeurs especially need a shot im the arm of courtesy vaccine. As our vivacious song leader “Joe” says, “Come on, let’s go.” ----- Rotary is self-education of those sentiments which, by means of an ordered mental process, lead to the crystallization of the human ideal.
