Summary, etc. | While World War II was in progress, Mr. and Mrs. James L. MacMannis sat by their shortwave radio set for 12 and 15 hours a day in their P.O.W. Listening Post at West Palm Beach, Fla. The purpose of their long vigils was to intercept messages of American boys held prisoners of war by the enemy. In all, the MacMannises intercepted 33,456 messages from prisoner of war camps in all theaters. They were able to transmit 29,575 of them to prisoners' families. From Comrade John M. Van Hook of V.F.W. Post 883 comes word that Mr. and Mrs. MacMannis are now living in Los Angeles, Calif. "Dad" MacMannis has been made lieutenant colonel and aide to the director of Philippine Rehabilitation, Major General H. W. Lombard of the Philippine Volunteer Army. General Lombard was a P.O.W. at Cabanatuan and Santo Tomas for 38 months. While awaiting orders for his new job, Colonel MacMannis has been busy organizing the "Last Mission Club" for prisoners of war. His address is Apt. 409, 624 W. 4th St., Los Angeles 12. |
