| Summary, etc. | Meeting Place: RIVIERA Special guests: Dateen E. Paglar from Singapore. Carmen Neri, wide of Rotarian Felino Neri, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs. Report of Meeting: Guest Speaker: Rev. Father Barth, Technical Adviser on Higher Education on women. By Nina Puyat Father Barth, could have been voted as, "THE MAN WHOM WE LIKE BEST TO PLAY SANTA CLAUS TO OUR KIDS" by this month's general meeting. Pleasant faced, deep-voiced and rotund, he gave a novel and graphic illustration of how an after luncheon speaker can be casual, straight to-the-point and just as effective. From the very start, the ladies knew they would like him. His lead:-"He who educates a boy, educates a man. But he who educates a girl, educates a family." His definition of culture was just as catchy. "That which is left when everything else is forgotten." Like what for instance? Like a sense of beauty, a sense of measure, a sense of propriety, and last but not least a broadness of sympathy. Strangely enough, his talk on a woman's "higher education" did not climb an ivory tower. Down to carth, it included such practical aspects like: the ability to hold a job, until the right man comes along, a general education to broaden her outlook on the various phases of human experience, a ca pacity for culture that will enable her to be the center of cultural activities of her future home and a sense of social responsibility to her community and country. Which, if you ask us, constitutes one of the best theories on a woman's education that we have ever come across. --- Miss Lourdes Reyes, U.P. Girl Scout, gave a brief talk about Girl Scouts in the P. I. "Its aim," she said, "is to shape girls into womanhood. Make her interested in Youth movement Community service and Character building. Gr Scouting enables her to discover an interest which will be valuable to her in life. It helps to develop a girl into her fullest capacity to be a good citizen, friendliness and service. Diminutive Miss Reyes was congratulated by Reve Father Barth, after her interesting address. |
