520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Mobilized Rotarians.-Clubs have been inquiring concerning the status of the men bership of Rotarians who have been called into government service in connection With the present armed conflict in Korea. Therefore, the board of R.I. has adopted the following statement : "If during a period of national emergency a club has members who have been called into military or other Government service, it is the considered opinion of the board that such emergency warrants action by clubs as follows: Any active, senior active, or past service member of a club who is giving his full time in Government service and who is thereby unable to attend the meetings of the club may be credited with attendance at the meetings of the club, provided he retains his active, senior active, or past service membership in the club, and the club excuses his absence from the meetings of the club, there by keeping him in membership. In other words, the club may, if it wishes, grant such a member a leave of absence for the duration of the national emergency with a credit for attendance. "For the guidance of clubs, 'Government service' is defined generally but not limit-i atively as follows: (1) Active service in the armed forces (2) Active full-time service in Federal state or provincial employment." Of Course You Know of the devastation wreaked on Winnipeg, a city of 222,000 on the Canadian prairies, by floods last May. But did you see pictures of the marquee sign strung across the City Hall when it looked as though the levees would burst and most of the city would be inundated? "We're weary and wet," it proclaimed, "but we'll win!" |
