520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "Honesty is the best policy" or have you heard that one before? So have we, but time was when it had acquired a certain empty dullness to our ears...... UNTIL! Until last Sept. 15, that is, when dear 479th (nee 81st) decided to award bright and shining examples of Balmy quote our old Malayan virtues Balmy unquote discovered in the rank and file, the backbone of the nation, the obscure yet heroic cogs of our national wheel, etc. etc. (If we're hysterical, it's only because the event jolted us from the cynicism that newspapers and election mind-slinging has dumped us.) Well, anyway, it was touching to realize that in this callous age so commonly referred to as the dog-eat-dog era, there still remain vestiges of impeccable honesty such as (to merely illustrate), in the case of one Boy Scout Antonio Lim, Jr. who picked up P2,000.00 in cash and jewels on the road and didn't rest until he found the rightful owner. Now we have no particular torch to carry for people who go around picking up fortunes in the roads. In fact, we envy them to a certain extent. But considering the fact that according to rumors, these Rotary awardees are not exactly millionaires, in fact they are not well-off at all, we can not help but feel like joining the big guffaw our naughty-naughty boys gave out upon mention of honesty among government employees. Their horse-laugh, we admit, may have been tactless, but its subtlety was so deep, we hereby offer one more guffaw ... after bowing in all respect to our guest of honor, Chief Justice Moran, who distributed the citations.
