| Summary, etc. | Yesterday at nightfall, while darkness was tarnishing the sky, and the raw north wind whetted its edge on every living thing, a little bird, hungry and cold, sought refuge from the fierce clutches of the storm behind an open shutter. How frail this little creature seems when pursued by winter's jaws. Why came this little mite to this scanty shelter? Ah, a slight opening had been left in a window through which there came a bit of warmth, assuring the wee creature that a friend was nearby. How like this little bird we are! How often when chilled by grief, pursued by mis- fortune and hungry for friendship we seek even the scantiest shelter, and there is none. But oh, what joy fills our hearts when we discover a kindly soul, a tender heart who has left his window open where we can feel the glow of his understanding, his sympathy, his inspiration and his love. Ah, forget not to leave the window of your heart open, even a tiny bit for somewhere a fellow pilgrim will perish, save for the warmth of your soul. |
