Summary, etc. | The gavel, symbolic of leadership and authority, was turned over by Eugenio Puyat, outgoing president of the Manila Rotary Club, to Dean Conrado Benitez, new head of the organization, during the club's regular weekly luncheon-meeting at the Manila Hotel on June 30. In his valedictory speech, Puyat summed up Rotary achievements of the year and appealed for continued cooperation in all Rotary activities. Gene also announced the following commendations: ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR For the consistent zeal with which he, and the committee he heads, sought to maintain the quality of our programs, not only at a profoundly instructive but also at a highly entertaining level, by inviting the best available speakers to address our club on a wide variety of subjects, timely as well as vital; For the precision timing with which he planned the numbers of his programs, so that our club meetings may end at the exact moment of two p. m., thus reducing to a maximum any possible conflicts with the average business and professional afternoon schedule; For spontaneously and wholeheartedly responding to the drives and projects of our club with unselfish zeal and contagious devotion thus typifying with living action the very essence of the spirit of Rotary, the award of the outstanding Rotarian of the year 1954-1955 is hereby conferred to Mr. Carlos Palanca, Jr., Rotarian Charlie, of Manila.
