520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Dr. Salvador Araneta, noted economist and brother of our "Monching" Araneta, was guest speaker today. He revealed the blueprint of his 5-year economic plan. Also guest at the head table was another member of the prominent Araneta clan, Vicente Araneta, famed kidnapee. President "Balmy" revealed that ten delegates so far constituted the group which will represent Manila Rotary at the District Conference in Davao City. Nominations for District Governor to succeed Emy Javier were made. "Nanding" Manalo of Baguio was the majority's choice. Joe Barredo nominated President "Balmy" but the lotter declined the nomination because it was agreed that the governor this year should not come from the Manila Club." A representative of the War Damage Commission also spoke and asked Rotarians to let WDC know when they need additional employees. He said WDC has a very good staff, who will need jobs when the WDC closes operations. Last week's sleeping beauties, "Tony" Villarama, "Pacoy" Lopez, "Paco" Delgado, and George Koster, were fined P5.00 each for making a trip to Dreamland while Dr. Menon was talking on India. "Vic" Buencamino, past president of Manila Rotary, talked on "What Rotary Means to Me," and revealed that during his term, what sounded as extemporaneous remarks from the chair were really memorized pieces. Pres. "Balmy" gave him a passing mark. Next meeting's talk will be on "The Aims and Objects Plan." A letter of thanks from Gloria Cruz, Rotary's blind protegee who recently graduated from the U.P. was read before the club. Also brought to the attention of the members was a letter from the Girl Scouts' Council, requesting for Rotary's help in the matter of furnishing drinks at the Girl Scouts camp. The letter was referred to "Ted" Hall, chairman of the vocational service committee. Some Rotarians, hearing the word "drinks," thought it should have been referred to "Jack" Preysler, or maybe "Charlie" Palanca. "Hilary" Silayan was the song leader for this meeting. For a change, there was a full orchestra in attendance, compliments of "Charlie" Hollmann. The response to Dr. Araneta was made by "Elbi" Monzon.
