520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Those who predicted that the United Nations would go the way of the late lamented League of Nations have been disproved by the facts. The United Nations as an organization for peace and arbitration in the settlement of international disputes is proving its mettle, for, although there have been sporadic armed conflicts, none has grown into a holocaust of the proportions of the two wars that seared the world during the half-century. The problem of world peace has not been solved, it is true. But that the danger of world war breaking out again has been averted so far is equally true. And for this. The United Nations deserves credit, for in spite of the tensions, the cold war and even actual armed clashes in separated spots on the globe, the prevention of global wear is an achievement in itself. To paraphrase Franklin D. Rooseret "The whole world can't start shooting as long as most of it don't stop talking." li for that alone, the UN has served its purpose so far. For it is a fact, that even those who scoff at the UN are still in it, and those who are out are trying to get in. The UN is the hope of humanity for peace.
