520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This is the question that should be answered by anyone who makes the time-honored classification talk at his Rotary club. Unfortunately, this aspect is often lost in a maze of historical reminiscences or technical details. To avoid this, some clubs have taken to the assignment of classification talks to other members. Thus a doctor will be assigned to report on the vocational activities of a fellow member who is a banker. Or the classification talk may take the form of an interview in which the chairman of the vocational service committee asks searching questions about the business practices of the member and his influence through his craft association. Rightly conceived, these talks express the finest tradition of Rotary and justify the classification principle as the basis of membership. The speaker should feel, and leave his fellow members feeling that his occupation is indeed dignified because he is using it as an opportunity to serve society. |
