Summary, etc. | Alfredo Montelibano, chairman, national economic council, on Sept. 29, last, addressed the Rotarians on the economic programming, past and present. Seated, left to right: Acting Club President Jonby Carlos, and Dalup Dalupan. Any plan, to be worth the paper it is written on, must be realistic, feasible, workable, and must take into account of and stay within the known limited resources at the planners' command. This according to National Economic Council Chairman Alfredo Montelibano, in the course of his speech before Manila Rotarians gathered on Sept. 29, last, for their regular luncheon-meeting at the Manila Hotel. "Economic plans, while being predicated on the good of the greater number of our people, must also take into consideration the profits to be realized since the business community is animated by profit," he said. Montelibano called attention to several plans in the past which failed because they were "mere blueprints." The NEC head explained that it is not the intention of the Council to recommend to the government the putting in of more money into enterprises which private firms can handle efficiently. He added that "the government, in fact, should stay out of business and induce private interests to take over whatever business undertakings can be turned over to them." Montelibano also told Rotarians that the Council has been soliciting the support and counsel of everyone so that the public could participate in national undertakings. |
