520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Samuel Graydon, vice-president of the Rotary Club of Flemington, N.J., talked about Rotarian Publications before the 271st Rotary District Conference held at Lakewood N.J. A printer by profession, Graydo thought it wise to spread around substantial and worthwhile aspects in relation to printing matters. Topic of discussion was the ROTARIAN magazine. He emphasized the importance of the publication. "The ROTARIAN is in reality a hub of an ever-revolving wheel broadcasting to each of us and others all about Rotary activities," he said. Citing a few of its high spots, three of its major functions are: WITHIN: - bringing information within Rotary circles from one Rotarian to another OUTSIDE TO INSIDE: - bringing the non-Rotarian world into the range of Rotary. INSIDE TO OUTSIDE: - carrying the inside story of Rotary, its ideals, objectives, activities and accomplishments, to outside Rotary circles. He further remarked: "One does not have to read all the good magazines that come his way, or even most of them, but has to select some, and then choose which articles to read. To us Rotarians, the ROTARIAN magazine is one we cannot afford to overlook, for it contains all the Rotary activities. That is why it is to our benefit to read it, but I sometimes wonder do we fully recognize and appreciate it? "Attention. Interest, Desire and Action," he said further, "are four pregnant words which this magazine typifies regarding Rotary. It attracts your ATTENTION, sparks your INTEREST. creates a DESIRE and spurs you to ACTION. "Fundamentally we are a service organization," he said. "When anyone unselfishly and wholeheartedly is intent on helping some person. cause or organization, who does so without thought of reward or recompense, and in a spirit of service in that unselfish fashion, I defy him not to automatically derive some indirect benefits. "If each of us," Graydon concluded, "members of the Rotary Clubs will read a absorb the essentials of Rotary as portrayed in the ROTARIAN magazine, and let what we are thus inspired and motivated to do, to become fugitive, but act on the we will all function as better Rotarians, a be resultingly better and consequently happier men.
