520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. A clean-up of the Manila International Airport and other airports in the country was urged by Dr. Paulino Garcia, secretary of health, in a letter to the CAA. We say ditto. *** A plug for the coconut industry was given by Paul R. Parrette, in a speech before the silver jubilee convention of the Philippine accountants. *** Three Manila Rotarians, Pablito Lorenzo, Manoling Lim and Juanito Nakpil as pontifical Knights of Maltar (see cut) were Honor Guards of His Eminence Fernando Cardinal Quiroga y Palacios on the opening of the National Marian Congress. *** As president of the Philippine Motor Association, our Ben Legarda spoke before the Malolos Rotarians, urging highway safety. He presented a reflector billboard which will be placed on what has to be known as Rotary Boulevard (between Malolos and Calumpit). *** We're glad Courado Benitez is out of the hospital. *** Watch for R. R. de la Cruz's annual Rizaliana souvenir booklet on or before December 30. He has been doing it for the last five years. *** Philippine printing houses, led by Ramon Ordoveza's Carmelo & Bauermann, are out for something worth watching. *** The Homeowners Association, of which Vicente "Vic" A. Rufino is worthy president, suggested changes in the building plan for Intramuros. Among others, the association asked that the proposed requirement for only a Spanish architectural style for buildings in Intramuros be scrapped. *** Our Leopoldo "Polding" Rovira, Jr. is member of the committee on special events for the coming Cavalcade of Industries. *** The State Bonding and Insurance Company, celebrated its fifth anniversary this week. We find the following Rotarians on the board of directors: Dr. Nicanor "Nick" Jacinto, Ernesto "Ernie" Rufino, and Juan "Jonby" B. Carlos. *** The Cavite Rotarians had one of us, P. E. Domingo, for a guest sometime ago. *** Kudos to Dr. Mariano "Ike" Icasiano, city health officer of Manila, who called a conference of bagoong makers and impressed upon them the necessity of sanitation at all times. *** On the 21st anniversary of the organization of the department of labor (December 8), we recall with pride that Primitivo "Tiving" Lovina was one time secretary of labor. *** M. R. de Cartagena (left), Botica Boie assistant retail manager, hands a gift certificate to J. II. "Yan" Yanzon, sales manager of Northern Motors who received the 4,000th thrift card issued by the firms Thrift Club, sponsored by the Philippine-American Drug Company. Looking on is Teresita Bustos, sales clerk.
