Summary, etc. Several Manila Rotarians addressed the national college students' conference in Baguio, sponsored by the YMCA and YWCA. They are Senator Gil Puyat, President Courado Benitez, Domingo "Basky" C. Baseara, Col. Harry Brenn, Sergio Bayan, and Dr. Mariano "Ike" C. Icasiano. The conference, which opened December 26, ends December 31. *** From the hands of Paul "Woody" Wood, 26 veteran executives and employees of International Harvester (Philippines) Inc. received citations for long and faithful service. *** Initiated into the Knights of Rizal was our Dr. Gumersindo "Gumer" Garcia, who successfully defended a thesis before a jury composed, among others, of Fernando Ocampo. On the same occasion (Dec. 27), Modesto "Fary" Farolan was exalted from Knight to Knight Commander. *** UE President Francisco "Dalup" Dalupan received recently Donald C. Kerr, counsellor to foreign students at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. *** Speakers at the Quezon City Rizal Day program are R. R. de la Cruz and Representative Eulogio "Yoyong" Rodriguez, Jr. *** Christmas cheer was brought to 150 inmates of the Mariveles branch of the National Mental Hospital by Secretary of Health Paulino Garcia. *** Our own Yu Khe Thai and Yang Sepeng were among the signers of a memorandum to Central Rank Governor Miguel Cuaderno, requesting suspension of the 17% exchange tax levy. *** The Boy Scouts of the Philippines' own edifice on Arroceros will be inaugurated Friday, with President Magsaysay in attendance. Jorge "George" E. Vargas, BSP president, will dedicate the building. *** Did you know that E. A. Perkins has one of the biggest Filipiniana libraries? It's in Baguio, and researchers are welcome. *** Secretary of Health Pauline J. Garcia was re-elected for a second term as chairman of the board of governors of the Philippine National Red Cross. *** Other officers voted were Rotarians Guillermo Willie Dy Buncio, re-elected assistant treasurer and Teodoro "Teddy" Evangelista, elected counsellor.
