| Summary, etc. | Herbert J. Taylor - Choice of Nominating Committee. At its meeting in Chicago on January 15th, the Nominating Committee for President of R.I. by unanimous vote, nominated Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor of the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. for the office of president of R.I. in 1954-1955 as proclaimed by Harry F. Russell, Chairman of the Nominating Committee for President. Herbert J. Taylor was born in Pickford, Michigan, U.S.A., and was graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, U.S.A. He holds an honorary LL.D. from Houghton (New York) College. Among his business and civic activities, he is chairman of the board of Club Aluminum Products Company, Chicago, Illinois; director of Monarch Aluminum Manufacturing Company, Cleveland, Ohio; director of Chicago Federal Savings and Loan Association; director of First National Bank, Barrington, Illinois; member, president's advisory committee of the University of Illinois; and director of the Chicago Better Business Bureau. Mr. Taylor has been a Rotarian since 1923. He is a former member and past president of the Rotary Club of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Chicago. He has served Rotary International as vice-president, director, district governor and as committee chairman and member. He is the author of the "Four-Way Test," a means for the evaluation of plans, policies and decisions which has been widely adopted by business and professional executives, governmental officials and educators in many parts of the world. In World War I, he served as an officer in the U. S. Navy. During World War II, he was a member of the Illinois War Savings Staff Committee and vice-chairman of the War Department Price Adjustment Board in Washington, D. C. He is a past director of the American Management Association and of the Aluminum Wares Association. His hobby is boys' work, and he is the sponsor of one of the largest boys' camps in the midwestern part of the U.S.A. |
