520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "I wish to thank your Committee and you all, through you, for this wonderful job in connection with your Cancer project. I wish you all can really feel how happy and grateful this lady is! "Congratulations for this work well done and I salute you!" With these words, District Governor Art Ilagan has remitted to President Danding a letter signed by Mrs. Lucy Ch. de Leon of Tarlac who, as a cancer patient, has been helped by the Cancer Committee of the Rotary Club of Manila. No better words will illustrate the good work done by the Cancer Committee and its chairman, Oscar Jacinto than the letter of Mrs. de Leon which we quote in full: Romulo Blvd., San Vicente Tarlac, Tarlac June 1, 1954 Egr. Arturo E. Ilagan Governor, Dist. No. 48 Rotary International 2 P. Burgos St. Tarlac, Philippines Dear Engr. Ilagan: Through you, I express my profoundest gratitude for the excellent service given me by the Cancer Project Committee of the Rotary Club of Manila. Because of your fine recommendations, I was given the best possible treatment at the UST hospital. Due to your letters and personal interest, I was privileged to obtain the talents of outstanding physicians and surgeons as Drs. Genato, Aleid, Manahan, Jacinto, Borja, Tamayo and Carpio. Being sponsored by the Rotary Club, I was quartered free at the UST hospital for two months under the continuous care and study of specialists who finally decided not to operate on my cancerous growth. Another two months of daily doses of radium exposure supervised by Dr. Carpio enabled me to get rid of the diseased portion that was the size of an average nut. Without doubt and fear of successful contradiction, I can say that you and the Rotary Club of Manila made possible my rapid recovery and complete treatment. I have only to report monthly for check-up of my cured tissues. Really, the intense study and care I received at the UST hospital by their medical scientists made me greatly appreciate the meaning of your lofty motto: "Service above self; he profits most who serves best." Again I extend my infinite thanks to the Rotary Club for the spendid services it extends to deserving individuals and my personal deep appreciation for my present happy, new life made possible by the kindness and understanding that you showed me. Very sincerely, (MRS.) LUCY CH. DE LEON
