Issue No. 3993
Summary: The Philippines and Thailand clearly had ties and constant interactions even before the two countries officially established diplomatic relations in 1949. The Luzon-made cotton clothes worn by the Thai populace centuries ago, the ceramic wares from Sukhothai and Sawankhalok found in the Visayas and Luzon regions, and the Thai emissary's visits to Rajah Humabon of Cebu even before the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan, all unalterably point to early interaction between the Thais and Filipinos. As a neighboring country, Thailand has indeed been a friendly state to the Philippines - and this relationship must be nurtured and preserved.
