Report of meetings : July 6, 1950 / Gene Puyat

By: Description: page 7-8 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 650 to 674Summary: It was essentially a day of maiden bows. Our handsome, collegiate-looking full-back newly-elect vice president, "Bob" Trent booted in at his debut with the poise of a veteran ballerina. Even "Emy" Javier of the electrifying slogans and the startling quotations, beat his own hard-to-beat record by presenting the keyword to -end of key-words: LAKAS, the tagalog word for strength, Emy advocated a brand-new inter-pretation: L for leadership, A for attend-ance, K for knowledge, A for accomplishments and S for sacrifice. If you can beat that one, we'll eat our buri hat. Man of the day however was Lebran's headman, "Tony" Anton, who conceived the wonderful idea of harnessing the histrionic talents of our boys and flashed on a silver screen, to shame the lingering memory of Tyrone Power, the Head ("Ben" Legarda), the neck (Gil Puyat), the mustache ("Bob" Trent), the Voice ("Ned" Hall), the chin ("Ted" Hall), the look ("Vic" Buencamino), the Mein ("EA" Perkins) and the Scowl ("Balmy" Balmaceda). It Won a most refreshing experience to hear Ben give his inaugural address-and yet, not to hear him really a so-far-and-yet-so-near sort of feeling. A the mice-shouldn't-play-though-the-cats-are-away, message. The induction could not have been any more emphatic had Ben been around in flesh and blood. His message rang and it rang loud and deep: co-operation, complete and constant-the only way to Rotary success.
