Description: page 2, 34 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 675 to 698Summary: The special luncheon meeting of the Manila Rotary last July 5 was a memorable occasion from many points of view. Principally, it was in celebration of Independent Day on July 4 of two nations closely linked by ties of friendship and common interests Guest speakers were U.S. Ambassador Myron M. Cowen, who spoke on the meaning of July 4th to America, and Vice-President Fernando Lopez who reviewed the achievements of the Philippine Republic during the first six short years of its existence. Mr. Cowen's speech was inspiring and the future. Verily, our ideals are buttressed the Vice-President's, an optimistic picture of ed in the long tradition which goes back to the glorious principles of democracy as developed in the United States and transplanted to the Philippines where it is growing fast like a flower soon to burst into full bloom despite the many dangers that lurks on its path. The occasion was given further meaning by a message from former President Sergio Osmeña who from his retirement in Cebu sent his best thoughts to the nation through Rotary on the historic celebration. It was a great day for America, the Philippines and Manila Rotary. To the Rotarians it was the inaugural of the new officers of the club headed by President-elect Vicente "Vince" Bunuan who in the previous meeting during his induction infused a reinvigorated spirit into the membership with his enthusiastic inaugural speech. Under his leadership, Rotary undoubtedly will continue in the forefront of the movement towards giving greater service, fostering sincere fellowship and developing effective civic spirit. Rotary stands for democracy, and it will ever be fused with the rest of the nation in perpetuating the free way of life.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
