Ellis, principal scientific officer of the UNESCO's East Asia Science Cooperation office, was the guest speaker this day. He told the Rotary that the Philippines badly needs trained scientific and technical personnel for the development of the country's natural resources. Explaining this is in the light of conditions in this country, he said it need scientific food pro-duction and improved nutritional stats. Dr. Ellis strongly urged encouragement of science through government initiative. In highly developed countries, he pointed out, great achievements have been made in the application of science to agriculture. "You must have trained personnel to assist in your primary education to exploit and develop your natural resources," he urged. A special guest was Admiral George Moore, new Australian minister in Manila. who gave a few remarks in thanks for the welcome he was given. A feature of the Rotary meeting was the "Biggest Liar Contest." "Lou" Rifkin won first prize. "Rolfing" Gonzalez won second; and Karl Kreutz third.
