From the Governor's monthly letter dated September 1, 1951

Description: page 25-29 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 675 to 698Summary: 1. District Assembly: It is a pleasure to state that the 1951 District Assembly which was held in the City of Manila on August 17 and 18 was a success. The attendance, 250, was unprecedented and surpassed my most optimistic expectation. The discussions on the four phases of Rotary service were lively, constructive, thought-provoking and inspiring. Fellowship was excellent. Enthusiasm for Rotary was superb. 2. Thanks to Manila: I sincerely thank President Vince Bunuan and all the other officers, directors and members of the Rotary Club of Manila for the affectionate courtesy and loving hospitality which they extended to each and everyone of us who attended the 1951 District Assembly. [missing] Reiterating our thanks for your splendid donation, I am Very truly yours, (Sgd.) MANUEL DE LA FUENTE Mayor, City of Manila August 22, 1951 Mr. Vicente G. Bunun Pres., Rotary Club of Manila Manila Dear President Bunnan: During the last Achievement, Week Celebration a "Healthy Family Contest" was sponsored in the City and Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Masangkay with 16 healthy living children obtained the first prize, In the course of the investigation of this family, it was found out that Mr. Masangkay has been jobless since June, 1949 in spite of his efforts to land a job and his apparent ability to hold one. He worked as a Clerk in the Singer Sewing Machine Co. earning P14.00 a week from 1918 up to the outbreak of World War II in 1941. Then he worked as a watchman in the Luzon Brokerage earning P150.00 a month for three years. He transferred to work as a watchman in the private warehouse of his cousin earning P200.00 monthly. When all the surplus goods bought by his cousin were sold out, Mr. Masangkay became jobless-that was in June, 1949. I am presenting this case to the Manila Rotary Club with the recommendation that help be extended to Mr. Masangkay by any Rotarian who may need the services of an employee with the qualifications of Mr. Masangkay. Even only the fact of his being record family man bringing to the world 10 healthy children is sufficient inducement for any Rotarian to give him a helping hand. Rotarily yours, IKE ICASIANO (City Health Officer)
