Cogs in the wheel - The Rotary Balita no. 681 (September 27, 1951) / Joe P. Baustista
Description: page 20-22 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 675 to 698Summary: By the time you read this, many Rotarians probably would have done something we can all be proud of: contribute to the Manila Police Trust Fund. Five gallant men of the MPD fell in pitched battles, necessitating replenishment of the fund. Two Rotarians will be glad to receive contributions to this trust fund for Manila's Finest: Dr. "Hermi" Velarde, member of the fund committee, and Dr. Albino Sycip, brother of Alfonso Sycip, trust fund treasurer. These two will be glad to send his men to pick up any checks. Let's contribute! "Balmy" Balmaceda, after a five-month stay abroad with his wife, during which period he represented the Philippines in a number of international conferences, returned to us. Welcome home! Other Rotary arrivals: Enrique "Eking" Montilla, who arrived with his wife; Jorge "George" B. Vargas and Exequiel "Villa" Villacorta, top brass of the local Boy Scout movement. The other side of the coin: Peter Richards of Reuters is scheduled to leave soon for London, the home office; Woody Wood of International Harvester, who left yesterday, September 26. WHO conference delegates, held recently in Manila, were guests of Dr. Rufino "Pinong" Abriol last Thursday. Pinong dug deep in his well-lined pockets but he must be tremendously pleased at promoting international amity. Rafael "Ralph" Rebullida warned the public not to be suckers for a new stone scientifically known as Titanium Rutile, passed off as diamonds by slickers. That's service, the sort that Rotary encourages. President Bunuan, chairman of the advance gift division of the UNAC (United Nations Appeal for Children), announced a record-breaking collection. Everywhere, the Rotary spirit is manifesting itself.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
