Attendance requirements / Gene Puyat
Description: page 24-25 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 675 to 698Summary: Of the eight phases of Club Services provided for in the Standard Club By-laws, three (Classification, Membership and Attendance) constitute the mechanics, as it were, of Rotary. Other clubs are organized for the benefits and advantages that a member derives from the associations. However, in Rotary, what counts is what the members give. That is why it is imperative for the proper functioning of the club that the members should pay strict attention to their attendance. Towards this end, Section 7 of the Rotary Club Constitution provides that: (a) The membership of any active, past service, or senior member who is absent from four consecutive regular weekly meetings of this club automatically terminates, unless such absence is made up as hereinafter provided or he is excused by the Board of Directors for good or sufficient reason. Absence at a regular meeting of this club may be made up by attendance at a regular meeting of any other Rotary Club on any of the six (6) days immediately preceding the day of absence, on the day of the absence itself, or on any of the other six (6) days immediately following the day of absence, provided notice of such attendance is given to this club. (b) The membership of any active, past service, or senior member whose percentage of attendance is less than sixty percent during the first or second six months of the club's fiscal year shall automatically terminate, unless he is excused by the Board of Directors for good and sufficient reason. It is further urged that travelling Rotarians should exert extra efforts to be able to attend the meetings of Rotary Clubs wherever they may be. This suggestion not only helps a particular member in fullfilling his personal attendance requirements but also encourages a mutual exchange of impressions among the different chapters. Towards this end, a policy has been evolved in Rotary to count attendance in favor of a delegate, beginning from his departure to the date of his return, to and from any of the following: 1. Inter-city Forum 2. District Assembly 3. District Conference 4. Rotary International Convention Annual attendance contests since 1922, have been held in the United States, Canada, Alaska, Newfoundland, Bermuda and Hawaii. Furthermore, Rotary International further suggests that all clubs of almost the same size hold their own attendance contests. Remember: Attendance need not be a grind; In Rotary, it is a way of life.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
