We're building a great idea
Description: page 22 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 624 to 649Summary: On a ramble down Forty-second street, New York City, a "New York Times" reporter had a conversation with a crew of steelworkers on the skeleton of a skyscraper. Twenty-six stories up, and thirteen more to go. The dizzy job was routine for them. But this was a job with a difference. Hailing from many lands like any typical crew of American workers, it made a difference that they were constructing the headquarters of the United Nations. In January, 1951, the skyscraper will be ready to house the Secretariat. The great fan-shaped arena of the General Assembly will be occupied by its sixth session. Enthusiastic, one of the crew, a native of Russia but an American citizen, declared: "This is not just another job-we're building a great idea. Get a look at this gang; we're a family of nations but we work darn well together. Sure we have arguments, but we get rid of them fast-peacefully. The United Nations is a wonderful idea."Item type | Current library | Call number | Copy number | Status | Barcode | |
