Cogs in the wheel - The Balita no. 700 (July 17, 1952) / Joe P. Bautista

By: Description: page 27-34 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 699 to 723Summary: Dr. Gumersindo "Gumer" Garcia, fund raiser par excellence, is in the throes of another collection drive. He is chairman of the committee to collect P70,000 for the carillon for the University of the Philippines, of which "Gumer" is an alumnus. "Dean" (he's always dean to many of us, despite the fact that he's already a college president) Leoncio "Elbi" Monzon, president of the MLQSL, points with pride to numerous crates which arrived recently, containing biological supplies and equipment for his school. For using the Wikang Pambansa (nation. al language to you) during his induction President Hans Menzi was praised in a public pulse letter by a champion of Tagalog. J. R de Leon. Francisco "Paquing" Benitez, worthy scion of a worthy father, is busy right now ex panding his fleet of Redi taxicabs. By the way, more Redi taxicab drivers have been commended for their honesty than any other. "Paquing" impresses upon his driv ers the value of courtesy, honesty, and service. Bienvenida to Benito "Ben" Legarda who came back recently from a trip abroad. Absences, at P5.00 By board of director's resolution, it was unanimously approved that all unexcused absences will be taxed P5.00 per absence. If the finemaster fails to collect the corresponding fines during the meeting, the absentee member must be ready to expect a statement for his fine. Remember, all this goes to our charity fund, and our goal this year is mighty high! Rotary Attendance Pins Director Dinny Gunn has graciously donated again this year, Attendance pins, to members who have made the 100% mark during the past Rotary year. These pins carry the No. "1" for one year's 100% at- tendance, No. "2" for two years, and so forth. These numbers are interchangeable so that a pin with a "1" can be returned to Dinny and changed to "2" if he is entitled to 2 years perfect attendance. To Dinny who is a stickler for attendance rules himself, the recipients of these pins should be very grateful for his generous gift to them. To non-recipients, it should be an incentive. Overtime Job For Our New Board In its endeavor to outclass the past Rotary administrations, our new board of directors has decided to hold meetings b monthly, instead of the regular month meetings as required by Rotary Interna tional. Each director will take turns as host with the meetings held in their respective homes. Damage to our club fund-nothing. Wanted-A New Typewriter Adding to his list of voluntary donations to the club, Dinny Gunn has offered a beautiful narra shelf at his own personal expense, for the use of our Rotary Office Vote of thanks again, Dinny, for your generous offer. We are also badly in need of a new type writer to supplement the old and dilapidated one which we are presently using. The board has turned down the idea of asking a member to donate the typewriter for very obvious reasons. However (Editor's bright idea), how about a deal with a Rotarian in the Office Equipment classification who would like to exchange it for free advertisement in the BALITA, including some publicity write-up, that is, if the editor finds it fit for publication. WE ARE SORRY... We regret very much the loss of Dr. F. T. "Ad" Adriano from our roll of membership. Ad has been a prewar member of the club, having been elected in November, 1937. He holds the classification of "Engineering- Chemical Engineering" and is at present As- sistant Vice-President of San Miguel Bre- wery. He was a former secretary and a very active member of the Manila Rotary, and was the sponsor of the present Balita Editor, His poor health and pressure of business are the reasons he has given for his inability to continue as a member. Let's hope that when Ad feels better, he will again join our folds in the immediate future. Eddie Miailhe, classification "Beverages Alcoholic-Wine Distributing," with deep regret by the board of directors, has also been dropped off from membership. Eddie, who is now in Europe for an indefinite stay, finds it difficult to observe attendance rules as required by Rotary International. We hope that when Eddie comes to settle himse permanently in Manila, he will rejoin us s that we can again enjoy the amiable per sonality he has always been known to possess.
