Report of meetings : October 13, 1949

Description: page 3-4Subject(s): In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 624 to 649Summary: No less a Rotary personage than the International President himself, Percy Hodgson, was guest of honor at the luncheon meeting today. Opening his talk with the usual eulogy to the traditional Filipino hospitality, President Perce buckled down to brass tacks and spoke on the essence of all Rotary efforts: one world, its peace and its meaning. Whether we like it or not, said Pres. Perce, we can not do anything about the fact that the world, IS one world, and all mankind must live together in their common planet, irrespective of their various religions, languages, habits, governments, and creeds. The least we can do therefore is to live together harmoniously, and towards this particular end, Rotary has been organized. There is a Rotary meeting being conducted in some corner of the world every hour of the twenty-four hours a day, and thru good-will and habitual cooperation, people are learning how to live together. The world's security is too big a problem to be solved by any one individual, but if we all put our shoulders to the wheel and endeavor to practice our Rotary ideals in our daily lives, the huge problem of peace or war may yet be saved. "We, the people" has been incorporated in to charter of the United Nations, and "we the people" must first learn how to do our thinking and acting in terms of international citizenship, if the United Nations is to survive and prosper. After the luncheon, an open forum was conducted by Pres. Perce, to clarify all questions regarding Rotary.
