Another Manila Rotarian who is now abroad, also for medical treatment, is Tiving Lovina, chairman of the late ICC. Even in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Tiving was concerned with the ICC, as witness his wire to Manila to have the senatorial probers get all the books of the ICC. Philippine Business Week (July 13 to 19) is devoid of the usual speeches and fanfare. The observance of the week coincided with the golden jubilee of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. "Amading" Bautista, reiterated their opposition to the exportation abroad of scrap iron. Past President Hans Menzi spoke at the induction of officers of the Zamboanga Rotary Club. Hans spoke on universal thought and understanding in relation to Rotary ideals. Representations for the release of about P57-million authorized by the public works act of 1953 were made by our Pablo "Pablito" Lorenzo, secretary of public works, to the finance department, the auditor general and the budget commissioner. Pablito pointed out that the work of the department is at a standstill except for maintenance jobs. Joe Orosa and Pete Teodoro will lead the discussions on trade on the opening day of the 5th national convention of Filipino businessmen at the Manila Hotel. Senator Gil Puyat recently congratulated the members of the United Filipino Retailers and Cooperative Association for their decision to establish a wholesale cooperative association. Jacinto "JB" Bautista, former traffic manager of the Manila Railroad Company, will teach transportation at the Philippine Women's University's college of business administration, RR de la Cruz, administrative officer and acting dean of the college, announced. The campaign of the Philippine Motor Association (of which Ben Legarda is president) is getting good response. Radio Electronics Headquarters Inc. offered a bonus to any of its drivers who will be awarded the PMA's scroll for courteous driving. Re-elected president of the Escolta Retailers Association was Joe Y. Orosa. Congratulations! Welcome to Gov. Ben Legarda who arrived last Monday after attending the R.
