Report of meetings : November 24, 1949

Description: page 3 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 624 to 649Summary: Today's meeting started with two beautiful numbers generously contributed by the pretty child prodigy, Nena del Rosario, piano wizard. For main dish, Mr. James Henderson of the Philippine Alien Property Custodian Office spoke on the Philippine Alien Property Act and its subsequent consequences. To begin with, the whole thing began with Pres. Roxas and then High Commissioner (Wabash Adonis) Paul McNutt way back in 1946. Before that, in 1945, the office had been under the U.S. because the Philippines was still a dependent state of the Uncle. Its job was to get back those properties confiscated during the occupation by the enemy and to give them back to the rightful owners. Piecing together this huge bulk of variegated wealth (shares, deposits in Japanese banks, farms, mills, real estate, factories, etc., etc.) the Administrator said the whole she-bang would amount to something like 100 million mazumas. (Chicken-feed, eh wot?) Question mark: How could Vic Buencamino and AP Reyes sleep behind their sunglasses thru such an interesting maze of statistics?
