The Rotary Balita no. 726 (July 30, 1953)

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U.S.A., (Special)-Jaime E Dy-Liacco of Naga, Philippines, has complete a year of graduate study at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, as a Rotary Foundation Fellow. One of 111 young men from countries to study under Rotary grants during the past school year, he was sponsored for his Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Naga. While attending Northwestern University, Mr. Dy-Liacco was chosen for membership in the national (U.S.A.) journalism professional fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi. Representing the Philippines at meetings many Rotary Clubs in the mid-western area of the United States, he gave insight into the culture and economics of his new republic. He described the Philippines as the third largest English-speaking nation in the world, and as one that exerts more "western influence" on the far east than any other country in the world. Mr. Dy-Liacco began his work at Northwestern University in September, 1952. At the conclusion of his studies, he traveled by automobile from Chicago to New York, returning through Canada, to obtain a better understanding of the Eastern part of the United States and Canada, before departing from Chicago for San Francisco. He will embark for the Philippines later this month. Valedictorian of his class at the Ateneo de Naga in 1950, he received the Bachelor of Literature degree from the Ateneo de Manila in 1952.
