Description: page 22 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 675 to 698Summary: Dear Dr. Bewley, 118 South Virginia Burbank, Calif. Thank you very much for your prompt reply to my letter, advising me of the real transportation situation in Manila. I enclosed your letter in mine which I sent to the International Guiding Eyes. I have been able to convince them that it is only by giving me a chance to take the dog home to the Philippines that the prohibition against animals on public conveyances might be modified, after the authorities see the real merits and importance of a guide dog to the blind. I think the organization was so impressed by my letter that they not only consented to give me the dog, but went further to saying that if the Philippine Government or any organization would be interested to send a well-qualified person the International Guiding Eyes will be willing to teach him now to train guide dogs for the blind free of charge. I think that is a very wonderful idea for if it works out all right it shall open up a new era for the blind of the Philippines. I am now staying in the home of Capt. Kreimer which is the training school for the International Guiding Eyes. Capt. Kreimer is the trainer, who has trained more than two thousand guide dogs both for German blind veterans of the first world war, and for American blind civilians since 1927. My dog is a silver gray German shepherd and is very good-looking. I do not want to brag now about her intelligence for I am not sure how she will react when she gets there, and besides I do not want people to expect too much from her at once. All I can say is that, we can now go together without the trainer's supervision, blocks and blocks away from the school and come back safely. I am sure that she and I will get along well together. I am coming home on the President Taft which sails from San Francisco on July 26. My best regards to you and your family. Very sincerely. GLORIA
