Cogs in the wheel - The Rotary Balita no. 643 (March 30, 1950)
Description: page 22-23 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 624 to 649Summary: GUARDIANS Three Rotarians deserve commendation for their willingness to assist in carrying the burden of the Philippine-American Guardian Association. A J Hill is the President of this laudable organization, while Vince Bunuan and Bob Trent are members of the Board of Directors. ON THE UP AND UP Have you noticed the steady rise in recent months on the attendance chart? Nothing flashy, but solid, consistent progress in the right direction. One reason is that the Board of Directors have been enforcing the attendance rules. We realize that absentees don't usually read the BALITA, but if by chance anyone with poor attendance should notice this, here's a tip: Don't feel that you are being persecuted if the Board of Directors should invite you to toe the 60% line, or else... PICK THEM WITH CARE One of the fundamental principles in Rotary which is frequently abused, is the classification principle which provides that the active membership of a Rotary club shall consist of one worthy representative from each classification of business or profession. Not only should the club adhere to the single classification system, but just as careful consideration should be given to a candidate's personal qualifications. Because he is a personal friend or crony of a club member does not qualify him as potential material for a Rotary club. Is he a top man in the craft he would represent in Rotary? Does he have authority to say "yes" or "no" in his business? Will he take Rotary seriously and make the organization stronger for his being part of it? These are the cold, pertinent questions a Rotarian sponsoring a new member should ask himself and should be able to answer satisfactorily before proposing a candidate for membership in his Rotary club. -From Honolulu Trade WindItem type | Current library | Call number | Copy number | Status | Barcode | |
