On the Starlit Deck of the Avenue Hotel last week, the young, fast-stepping Business Writers Association of the Philippines ceremoniously ended its 1949 program of activities with a presentation of its second annual business awards to its choice of "outstanding businessmen who made the most contributions in their respective fields of enterprise." Of the 41 chosen top leaders of the local business world for the year 1949, ten are Rotarians (see cuts). Organized in 1947 for purposes of promoting cooperation and better relations among business writers and their news sources, the BWAP has grown rapidly since then, now boasts of eighteen active members composed of shipping editors of leading metropolitan dailies and some editors and staff writers of business magazines. Among the association's early activities were the selection of the best business stories for 1947 and a business opinion poll for the ensuing year 1948. Some of the organization's story selections were given wide acclaim and reprinted in several U.S. publications. This year marked the second annual award dinner by the BWAP. In March of last year the first awards were presented, covering a period of two years. Leading awardees were Col. Andres Soriano and Rotarian Gil J. Puyat for 1947 and 1948 respectively.
