Naylor, vice-president. and general manager of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., back after a 4-month combined business-pleasure trip to the US and Europe; UE President Francisco "Dalup" Dalupan, back from Japan where he surveyed the ceramics industry; and Juan F. "Juanito" Nakpil, returned with his family. from the United States where he reaped honors. Congratulations to Hans Menzi his name was cleared in the alleged Davao land-grab, as all those who know expected from the beginning. Two Rotarians chairmanned the executive committee in charge of the Fil-American day last Friday: "Rex" Reyes, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce, and Paul Parrette, president of the American Chamber of Commerce. Several Manila Rotarians were also on the various committees, among them Gil Puyat, Teodoro "Teddy" Evangelista, Modesto "Fary" Farolan, and Pedro "Pete" Teodoro. One day last week Jaime "Jimmy" Velasquez donned his crisp barong tagalog and showed up at Malacañang. Occasion: the turning over to the President of the reparations report by the special mission to Japan of which "Jimmy" was a member. Welcome news was that announced by City Health Officer Mariano "Ike" Icasiano last week: the flu breakout was on its way out, but definitely. Many Rotarians had a bout with the pesky ailment. It was the birthday of Dr. J. H. "Yan" Yanzon last week and the staff of Northern Motors, of which he is sales manager, felicitated him. Chairman of the Ladies Day meeting of the Philippine Institute of Accounts is Alfredo "Fred" Velayo, acting chairman of the board of accountancy. The Philippine Book Lovers Society, of which Jorge B. "George" Vargas is president, held another meeting at Kawilihan recently and as usual. "George" had to open his bar to coke-imbibing bibliophiles. "Joe" Orosa was host to PNB directors and officials at a party he gave in honor of Director Mariano Laurel of the PNB. "Ponce" Enrile attracted many a male eye when he attended the meeting at the Riviera. An attentive goodlooker of a nurse may have something to do with it.
