Description: page 22-23 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 650 to 674Summary: Reminder: Elected officers of the club at the J 11, 1931 meeting were Judge Frank B. Ingersoll, president; Carlos P Romulo, vice-president; C. C. Mitchell, secretary-treasurer; David Gunnell, sergeant-at-arms; Theo L. Hall, James K. Steele, Horace B. Pond, Juan Posadas, and Arthur Hoyer, directors. - Everybody was excited at the June 25, 1931 meeting because the speaker was Vice-Governor George Butte and his subject was "Eventually, Why Not Now ?" All were keyed up as Mr. Butte announced he had as much right to spring bombshells in the Rotary Club as others. So what happened? The bombshells forgot to explode; as a matter of fact, no bomb was laid at all, and as chronicled with an evident sigh of relief, "The talk, however, was safe and good." - Delegates of the Manila Rotary Club to the 1931 Rotary International Convention held in Vienna, Austria, June 22-26, 1931, were Sam Gaches and Arsenic Luz. Named substitute, in the event that neither Gashes nor Lou could make it, was Gordon Hart. - This quip in the December 3, 1931, BALITA made many a Rotarian smile: "The old maid was talking. 'I have never married because there is no need of it. I have three pets at home which together answer the same purpose as a husband. I have a dog which growls all the morning; a parrot which swears all the afternoon; and a cat which comes home late at night.’ ” ----- "Moth," said five-year old Alice, "did I descend from a monkey?" "I am not sure, my clear; I didn't know your father's family."Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
