Description: page 11-15 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 650 to 674Summary: International PRO Publish an international issue of the BALITA, filled with pictures, interesting stories, and a few facts about the Philippines. Then send the special issue to other clubs throughout the world. This is the recommendation of Basky Bascara's fireside group, which met recently at Paco Delgado's home, with Sandy Sanders as chairman. The letter of our Rotary fellow, Odette Madamba, appearing elsewhere in this issue, again focuses attention on ignorance regarding the Philippines in other lands. The BALITA staff will be happy to cooperate with Hans Menzi and his International Service Committee if the fireside-meeting recommendation. Rotarians in Overalls It's no longer true that Rotarians "over-age good-willers limiting their civic activities to paying another handsomely to do civic their work." Work is the motto of our 1950 Christmas Committee (For Others). They are working to give Manila's 272 over-worked mail and telegraph carriers a Christmas each family will remember. CS Gonzales, Manny de Leon, and Paulino Garcia, workmen all, may ask you, too, to help with the gala distribution program on December 22nd. Mike Arnold, Paquing Benitez, and Totti Eraña are at work soliciting your free-will offering to make this fine, big Rotary project really work. Join generously in the good work! And to carry out the theme of Work, Art Tanco, general chairman of our Christmas (For Others) is styled the Overall Party Chairman! Springboards for Action Ramon Oriol was host, Art Tanco the discussion leader and Yan Yanzon the fireside secretary, at a meeting which recently made the following recommendations, among others: 1. Extend visiting Rotarians from abroad our assistance and attention outside of meetings as well as during the luncheon hour. 2. Introduce Filipino students now abroad to Rotary clubs, and send the students information regarding the Philippines and Manila Rotary, to help in preparing talks on the Philippines. 3. Change our present long luncheon tables to smaller ones. 4. Guard against our meetings being overly crowded with good things, lest our minds become surfeited and we find no time for proper courtesies to our guests, to each other, and to our speaker. Marianito's Masterpiece The BALITA is the recipient of a complimentary copy of Past Gov. Marianito Lichauco's book "Know Your Rotary," cost P6.00, neatly printed and attractively bound, for which we are deeply grateful. It covers comprehensively all the phases including actual problems of Rotary in the Philippines in Clubs which makes this book Rotary Rotarian especially a "must" for every newly inducted one. Knowing full well the time, effort and sacrifice which Marianito has well his experience spent as and broad knowledge as of Rotary we recommend his book highly to every Rotarian who would like to know about Rotary. To Marianito, a deep bow for his outstanding achievement and may his book be a success! Yan's Silver Anniversary Yan Yanzon, manager of the Philippine National Red Cross, completed his 25th year of uninterrupted service to the Red Cross and his 4th year as manager of this national humanitarian society last Friday, Dec. 1st. Manoling Lim, PNRC chairman, considers Yan as an institution in the Red Cross and a credit to our cause our country. Manila Rotary Club, to whom Yan has also devoted much of his valuable time in his active work in different committees is indeed proud of his achievement. Congratulations on your 25th and may you be as active till your 50th!Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
